crown me with flowers

Today, I have managed to procrastinate with photography. Not good, however, I will now resume study as soon as I post this. Lately, I have been greatly interested in flower crowns and accessories, and after being disappointed at the miserable range of flowers at Spotlight, I didn't end up embarking on the DIY Flower Crowns bandwagon. However, I will be looking online for some good sites which sell good quality faux flowers - does anyone have any recommendations?
For these photos, I stole my younger sister's flower crown she put together with mum with the nicest flowers they could find at Spotlight. I'm wearing a white dress my mum sewed using vintage lace fabric for the skirt.

Unfortunately at the moment I have only been using VSCO Cam to edit my photos which is a mobile app, and does not keep the HD quality of my nikon d90 photos. I still have yet to learn how to use photoshop. Possibly in the future I might re-edit these photos so they're better quality. 

My driving lesson went surprisingly well, I learnt how to reverse parallel park! 

Anyways, I've procrastinated enough for now!

trip to the park

Yesterday, my cousin came to visit my sister and I with her sister in law and the first hour of the visit consisted of a heated talk and ramble of the latest movies, cast line ups of movies-to-be and whether certain movies were worth the 2 hour sit. It wasn't long before my sister mentioned "Now You See Me", a movie encompassing a bank circus act if you like, who steal money from banks without keeping a single cent for themselves. As we were going to set up the movie (my cousin hadn't seen it) dad insisted we go outside since the weather was so nice.

We ended up walking to a childhood park of mine called "Wattle Park" which, if you have hay fever, is the land of watery eyes and snuffy noses. We walked here and there and noticed how all the play equipment had shrunk a little since we'd last been. I had also developed a small sense of insecurity being 2 meters from the ground on the wooden boardwalk. How times have changed.

After our little adventure, I realised  that I should be getting outside a bit more than I have been.
Other than that, today has been semi productive, but not in the educational way. I've put off the growing mound of unseen lectures from uni and instead cleaned out my room for Spring. The previous clutter of the room had deterred me from proper study, so now there shouldn't be any excuses for a friendly study environment! Tomorrow is a busy day as I have a driving lesson (about time I seriously think about getting my P's), tutoring maths for a student and violin lesson. I'll also be making a start to uni work seeing as I have one last midsemester test remaining!

frankly frankie and smoothies

After completing most of my midsemester tests, I found myself inclined on purchasing a little something to cheer me up and celebrate the short but sweet two weeks of bliss before another Biology midsem. What did I resort to? Frankie. It had me at Doctor Who and peanut butter reviews.
Not only that, I have been wanting a camera for much longer than a year now and my younger sister happened to receive a package in the mail today encasing her brand new Lumix gifted from father. I suppose it was a late birthday present but the whole event caused me to go into a little stooper so I hijacked dad's SLR and after being more than happy on how my photo turned out, I think this will be happening a lot more often.

Apart from cameras, envy and stress, the Science Ball is soon approaching and the theme is "Ocean". Sophie and I were thinking of going with matching costumes, and Mum's currently thinking of ideas. Does anyone have any thoughts?

*Update*
My computer decided to crap out yesterday and wouldn't allow me to upload photos onto blogspot. So in that amount of time between yesterday and now, I've also made raspberry smoothie topped with my homemade maple granola and berries.

Ironic Cookies

There may be a time in space when you'll get a little bored of those Mrs Field's cookies. Of course, what better than to sit down with a nice cuppa whilst endulging in a chocolate chip cookie, watching that cliff hanging episode of your favourite tv show? Yet, in the cookie world, as repetition and lack of variance strikes once again you might find yourself itching for something out of the ordinary. And it was out of this budding thought that my sister came up with the idea of ironic cookies. Whether it's for letting a little attitude and steam out, creating cute delectables or to be able to sink your teeth into buttery goodness, this is a great baking idea!

All you need:

• Basic shortbread recipe
• Heart shaped cookie cutter
• Letter imprinter (can be found at daiso)
• An ironic mindset

It's no rocket science, and I was ecstatic with how they turned out!

As you can see, I am Team Damon when it comes to The Vampire Diaries. (I'm absolutely hooked! I find myself trying to restrain myself so I can save some episodes for when my wisdom teeth are extracted.)

 These guys are a great accompaniment with strawberries, a dollop of nutella and tea.

New start.

Seeing as it's a new semester soon of 2013, I thought I'd begin a blog tailored to my everyday life. I enjoy writing, lunching, coffee-ing, uni-ing, science-ing, the lot. I'd like to believe I'm a good cook but unfortunately, that's a work in progress. If you're in need of a good avomato toast however, look no further than here! I'll leave here with a good blog-warming moment of a good old English account of today.
So mum and I were intrigued in the little line up of cafes down on Union Rd by the train station. We ended up taking our pick on The Freckled Hen which has a French felt interior and dainty glass domes housing each cake, cookie, slice and muffin. Mum already had the idea of purchasing a couple after she used the same idea for displaying baked goods for the Canterbury Girls' Arts Show. I would've taken photos, but I'm on the hunt for a new camera. I've been using my phone for the time being.
I decided to go with the daily special, Salmon Tart with Berry Salad and French Dressing! The tart had a strong salmon flavour and the berries complemented the whole dish well.

Mum chose to go with the Pear, Cranberry and Brie toasted sandwich which was like a fruit and cheese marriage. I literally want to eat it every single day now as a snack, if it weren't for the not-so-healthy nutritional value of the brie. 

I had a cappuccino after, and the kind lady barrister drew a flower on milky foam. 

Overall, it was quite a pleasant meal; the only downside of the place was the lack of variety on their menu. There were mainly elderly people at the cafe, so it felt a tad different to the usual cafe I visit, but the food was nice! 

So that was my highlight of the day, a little outing with mumma bear. Where's your last cafe visit been?
